Bird Island, MN

Bird Island is your 2024 Division II American Legion State Tournament Host.

The city of Bird Island is located in Renville County which is located in Southwest Minnesota. Some people may think that if a town has the word “island” in it, it should have an island, but there is no island here anymore. Many years ago about one and a half miles southwest of Bird Island there was a 60 acre island surrounded by sloughs. The island was filled with many huge, beautiful trees that were a refuge for thousands of birds. With the help of ditches and tiling, the island soon disappeared. Now it has become valuable productive farmland.

Bird Island’s population is 1,005 and you will find friendly people working hard in a wide range of business and services, ready and willing to provide for your needs. The city is known for its hometown pride and good quality services.

Lion’s Memorial

Baseball Park

Located at 1160 Birch Avenue, Lion’s Memorial Baseball Park is rated one of the top ball fields in the state. Many renovations were made from 1992 through 1995, thanks to baseball fans, the City of Bird Island and the Lion’s Club, a new grandstand, electronic scoreboard, dugouts, fencing, sprinkler system, and a grass infield were implemented. The Lion’s Club added a roof to the grandstand. More renovations began in 2007 through 2010 in preparation for co-hosting the amateur state tournament. The project included new dugouts, a large plaza and concession stand along the first baseline, plus a berm constructed at the edge of the plaza extending down the right field line. The new scoreboard, extension of the 1st baseline plaza and pitching mound were updated in the past year.

The baseball park is home to the 2013 & 2019 State Class A Champions BOLD Warriors High School Baseball Team. The field is also utilized by the Bird Island Bullfrogs Amateur League, who recently became the Class C State Runner-up in the Minnesota State Amateur Baseball tournament in 2023. The park also hosts the BOLD Mudhens Legion baseball team, who were the State Consolation Champions in 2019. Lastly, the field is utilized by the BOLD Angels Jr. Legion baseball team and a variety of BOLD traveling ball teams.

Lion’s Memorial Park is excited to host the 37th Annual Division II American Legion State Tournament in 2024.
